Several Greek media outlets, including the "Kathimerini" Greek language website, are reporting that the “A” samples of two Greek weightlifters have come back positive for banned substances.
| One of the tests was conducted on June 1st, prior to the Mediterranean Games now underway in Pescara, Italy. The other, reportedly from a female athlete, was from a test conducted on May 15.
One of the positives is reported to be Nikos Kourtidis, who won two gold medals today prior to being notified by telephone of the news. He competed at 94kgs, and went through doping control following his competition.
The other is Konstantina Lapou, who won silver on Sunday at 58kgs. "Sport.gr" is reporting that they both tested positive for Stanozolol, the drug made famous by the Ben Johnson bust of 1988.

Pyrros Dimas, the weightlifting federation president, learned of the positive tests on Tuesday evening at 8:05 pm, local time.
This follows the news from earlier this month that the talented young lifter Tasos Triantafilou had also tested positive for an illegal stimulant at the European Union weightlifting championships in Poland in March, and had received a four-year suspension.
