Nic Macrozonaris goes up against some stiff competition in the 60m sprint this Saturday, in what is surely to be the highlight of the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham, England.
|
If all move through to the finals, the "Macro" man will line up against Athens 2004 100m silver medalist Francis Obikwelu of Portugal, the "Bath Bullet" Jason Gardener and the quickly emerging rising star of British sprinting, Craig Pickering.
The season best time for Macrozonaris is 6.62 seconds from Saskatoon earlier this month.
He will need to run a new season best if he has any hopes of emerging victorious in Birmingham, as Pickering has run several blistering sub-6.60 times so far this year including 6.55 seconds, his personal best.
So far competing in Europe, Macrozonaris has run 6.73 sec's and 6.69 sec's.

In a call to him earlier today, he indicated he is ready to go much faster, pointing out that his two races so far were held shortly after his arrival in Europe, not affording him enough time to adjust to the time change.
"I feel good and that is the important thing," he said. "I think a time in the 6.5's is very possible."
Macrozonaris' 60m personal best in 6.56 seconds, from December, 2002.
