An excellent showing in the finale of the world weightlifting championships today for Greece's Dimitris Papageridis, who competed in the "A" group of the men's super-heavyweight division.
He finished with successful lifts of 182 kgs in the snatch and 222 kgs in the clean and jerk, both on his 2nd attempts. He missed 3rd attempts of 188 kgs and 227 kgs, respectively. His successful lifts were good enough to earn the 20-year-old, the youngest competitor in the group, 5th place in the snatch and 8th in the clean and jerk for a total of 404 kgs. He finished 6th overall in the world in the final total combined results.
World champion once again and winner of 3 gold medals was Hossein Reza Zadeh of Iran. He lifted 202 kgs in the snatch and 246 kgs in the clean and jerk, for a total of 448 kgs. It looked like he would attempt to break his own world record on his 3rd and final attempt in the clean and jerk, but ultimately decided to call it a day.
Artem Udachyn of Ukraine won the overall silver and Feng Dong of China the bronze. Dong also broke the world junior clean and jerk record with a lift of 245 kgs.
